December 2009: This has been a strange year for showing. It started with an excellent clinic in the spring where Wandy’s half steps and one tempis were really coming along well. Unfortunately, as the work got more intense Wandy was obviously having trouble with his stifle. We abandoned any idea of the Texas Dressage Classic and went to visit Dr Hague at Oakridge Equine Hospital. After blocks and radiographs, Wandy had his stifle injected and after some time off was back on the road to success in Intermediate I. In the remaining spring shows Wandy was Intermediate I Champion and overall FEI Champion. Then after the Dallas show he had flu like symptoms and was diagnosed with Hepatitis. After 5 months of treatment his liver enzymes are finally coming down thanks to Dr Landsheft, our farm Vet, and Dr Todd Holbrook and his team at OSU school of Veterinary Medicine. Dr Holbrook thought it would be alright for me to compete Wandy at the Lazy E Fall Classic show as I had kept him very fit through his treatment. Like a true champion Wandy was again Intermediate Champion with a score of 72%, Great Plains Intermediate Champion and overall FEI Champion.
My students all did well at the few shows that we attended (see results below) and my young horse Rousseau came along really well.
Michelle Meiklejohn competed successfully at first level in her last 2 shows with her father's wonderful Friesian mare Hannelore Van Honswijk. She also brought out her young gelding Sideach (Hannah’s son) at the fall show. Sideach behaved extremely well for his first outing, especially for being at a venue like the Lazy E. Hannah has now returned to Driving under the able hands of Michelle’s Father. Elaine Dodson made her first foray into recognized shows at the Lazy E show. Although she didn’t come away with any blue ribbons, she came in 4th, 2nd, 5th and 3rd in first level. She was very well prepared and her horse Reinbeau improved consistently over the two days of showing. Amanda Edwards and Allouette rounded out their season at 2nd level with four 1st places, two 2nd places and one fourth and have been working through the fall and winter to get ready for 3rd level in the Spring.
Nicole Burris and Lisa Anne Yost both competed at first level amateur and open respectively, only showing in the ODS Spring Show and both won first place twice.
Elizabeth Eaton showed my mare Lucy at Training level in the Lazy E Show achieving two 1st places, two 2nd places and the pair were Junior Training Level Champions.
Congratulations to all my students.
